Razak Mumuni Abugiri made history becoming Ghana's only judo medalist at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
The Accra based based judoka braved the odds to become the first Ghanaian judoka to win a medal at the Commonwealth Games in the process.
He snatched a bronze medal in the men’s -60kg contest on the first day of competition on Wednesday 24th July, at the Scottish Exhibition Conference Centre in Glasgow.
Abugiri defeated Mozambique’s Neuso Moz Sigauque in a one sided contest, having lost in the earlier round.
He is one of 12 national athletes who receieved a Rio Olympic schiolarship in March. The IOC scholarships form part of the GOC’s goal of assisting elite athletes selected and proposed by their National Federations in their preparation and qualification for Rio 2016.
