How to add character and charm to your home

An excellent place to start is by identifying the features of your house that you won't change. Finding a special way to combine components that express your individual taste is a key component in designing a home's "character." Decorating in a way that contrasts with your home's architectural style is the simplest place to start.

Contrasting mid-century modern pieces can be a terrific way to add flair to a fairly classic setting. On a traditional sofa, geometric print cushions would add a nice, distinctive touch. When your room is industrial, a crystal chandelier can shine in a completely different way.

The antique chair with Gournay-inspired vibrant fabric is a great focal point in a modern room. Accept any "defective" components. Imperfections are a sign of life, and life energizes the house, from the rubbed-out spines of books to the notched corners of the coffee table. When shopping, resist the urge to pick up a worn-out antique rug. It can give the overall narrative of your property a distinctive quality with some finishing touches or fixes.  This is especially useful to keep in mind when browsing the FB market, antique shops, and thrift stores.

A home's character is not limited to unique accents, attractive windows or original parquet flooring. It is the culmination of individual expression within its walls.

Nothing makes a home  more unique than unique pieces.  Small decorative elements look great when grouped together and can add visual interest to bookshelves, coffee tables and side tables, especially when designed in different heights and sizes.

In addition to displaying your collections, dedicating space to the fruits of your favorite hobbies can add  life to your home. Do you love puzzles? Add a small coffee table in front of the window, cover it with a tablecloth and keep your favorite puzzle pieces on top. Suddenly, you've added a new seat, fabric for texture, and a beautiful vignette that serves as a haven after a long day of work.

Whether it's fresh flowers, contrasting cushions or  patterned throws, cushions and prints on your wall, every room can benefit from the life that color brings.

This does not mean that painting an otherwise "boring" room with a warm coral color is suitable for everyone, but sometimes we forget that even in the smallest rooms we can find a purpose for something dynamic. It can be a large  royal blue rug or a small patterned print on the curtains.  Some homes scream color, while others use it in ways that make you feel it before you know it.

Drawers are bad because they're stuffy, but if you're decorating a bedroom that lacks architectural interest or just needs "flow," this can be a great way to polish it up.
