The Grade 2 listed building permanently closed its doors to the public in September 2019, after being sold to a private owner by the Chapman brothers, whose family had run the hotel for more than four decades. And the beautiful venue is now to be transformed into a luxury mansion home,It was reported in 2019 that Hassop Hall's new owner could turn it into a private residence, which has now been confirmed after a planning application was submitted. The application submits that the owners will renovate part of the historic building and transform it into a luxury dwelling.

According to planning documents submitted by architect Studio Gedye on behalf of the applicant, work is needed on the West Wing of the building to bring it into use.

In a Design and Conservation statement it says: "In the 20th century, the Hall underwent a large body of work and was converted to a hotel.

"More recently the current owner and applicant purchased the Hall and intends to restore it as a family home, making the Hall one dwelling again."

In the document it states that work in the 1950s to remove the first and second floors of the West Wing had a "detrimental effect" given it is where vehicles enter the site.

"We propose to address the unbalanced aesthetic created by the 20th century works and to re-establish the West Wing as a significant part of the hall," it said.

"In this way we aim to enhance the building and its character as a mansion house in a historic landscape."

It would do this by reconstructing the first and second floors on the West Wing of the building, reinstating the ground floor Georgian Porch and installing a new roof.

Works would also be undertaken to the existing staircase which links the first and second floor of the property.

Since purchasing the hall in 2019, the owners have undertaken a series of works to convert it from a hotel to a home, with planning applications submitted for numerous alterations to the property.

The Design and Access statement adds: "We believe the proposed scheme represents an enhancement of a unique mansion house.

"Through a considered process of consultation and careful design we aim to introduce high quality work that will stand the test of time and add to the centuries of building design on this site."

The full details of the application can be found on the Peak District National Park Authority planning portal under the references NP/DDD/1221/1341 and NP/DDD/1221/1340.
