Gideon Quartey has been elected as the new President of the Ghana Boxing Federation (GBF) at the GBF's Elective Congress at the Theodosia Okoh National Hockey Pitch in Accra on Monday, May 11, 2015.
The former Greater Accra Amateur Boxing Chairman emerged as the winner, edging out Eugene Nyarko Appiah by a vote of 27 to 16.
Likewise, George Lamptey won the slot for the 1st Vice President position polling 17 votes compared to 10 votes for Allan Sackey, 3 votes for Eric Alfred Bannerman, and 2 votes for Benjamin Alex.
In the contest for the 2nd Vice President position, Abdul Samadu Mohammed garnered 20 votes ahead of Joshua Osabu Odonkor and Dennis Mahama Adams who tied at 12 votes each.
Bernard Quartey stood unopposed for the post of Treasurer while Theophilus Edwin Addo and Ebenezer Ofori Quaye were elected as the two Executive Members after polling 28 and 23 votes respectively. A third candidate Dr. Ken Ayittey had 19 votes.
The congress became necessary after the incumbent president Ray Quarcoo resigned from his position last year.
